Before Christmas, I had explained to the students about germs and told them about this experiment using bread to show the growth of mold and the effect of germs. There were 3 pieces of bread: 1)not touched, 2)touched with dirty hands, and 3)touched with washed hands. We thought of predictions of which bread would mold the fastest and why that were displayed on the board and the students copied one of the sentences into their journals. Unfortunately, I had bought light rye bread which obviously had too many preservatives because the pieces went hard before they could mold. So we tried again after Christmas using bread that I had made with my machine at home. I think it worked this time and we had to write the results in our journals sooner than later so I can throw out the disgusting breads.
